Dr. Saskia Vermeylen

Dr. Saskia Vermeylen is a reader in law at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. Her research focuses on property theory including examining the future of the commons and the common heritage principle across different landscapes and areas, including the deep seabed and outer space. Her research also focuses on examining how resources such as soils can be protected through more progressive anti-property regimes, such as the idea of guardianship and how this has been applied to rivers and ecosystems within the framework of Rights of Nature. She has published widely on these topics and is currently also experimenting on reframing property law as an aesthetic praxis.
