About the project:

The Earth Advocacy Mentorship Programme , 6 month mentorship programme will empower young people, volunteers, activists, CCIVS member organisations and individuals to plan their local actions and become Living Earth Ambassadors. In partnership with the LIFE programme of the European Union and The Living Earth Campaign (LIVE) which is the vehicle that CCIVS will use to continue with the advocacy work for the Soil4Life Manifesto so that it can be taken to regional, local, national and international decision-makers.

Two experts on a) soil ecology, and b) advocacy will mentor the participants in bi-monthly (every 2 weeks) sessions that will empower them to understand soil, ecology and advocacy, and to create and implement local actions, report on their actions and engage local/regional/ national decision-makers. The final aim is to share a common vision and to support young people and activists who speak out and take actions on behalf of Earth by c channeling their energy and enthusiasm to advocate for their own cause and to create an impact.

For the mentorship programme you will need to commit to 2 zoom calls a month for 6 months. Access to a good internet connection is required for the calls. Calls will be recorded in case you miss one, but we ask for a %75 attendance. You will be mentored and supported to create or strengthen your action plan for Earth advocacy or Living Soils. We will share stories, successes and create a network of support while learning together. There will be assignments and some time commitments for peer review and implementing the Earth action. You will have the opportunity to participate and co-create a live webinar and form part of CCIV’s Living Earth campaign that showcases the different actions and promotes Earth Advocacy and Living soils.

Meet your mentors:

Kate Curtis

Kate is passionate about living soil, permaculture, ecological-education, ecosystem restoration and nature connection for positive change. She forms part of the team on the CCIVS Living Earth Campaign (formerly CCIVS for Climate Justice) and has broad practical experience restoring soil in diverse climates. She is currently growing a non-profit project in South Africa called Green Hearted which supports community gardens and food sovereignty. She facilitates various permaculture and agroforestry courses, as well as sustainable food production and soil workshops.

Giada Martin

Giada discovered the IVS movement thanks to her life-changing experience in Barcelona, hosted by COCAT after being a scout for more than 15 years. Since 2019, she is involved in the External Affairs and Communications of the Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organisations and has a wide set of skills in communication and advocacy. Giada works both as a project manager/ trainer and as a fundraiser in the field of international cooperation. Her academic background is in Public and Political Communication, and she holds a Master›s degree in Fundraising.

BACKGROUND

About CCIVS and the Living Earth Campaign

The Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS) is a non-governmental, non-profit making international organization (INGO) working for the development and coordination of voluntary service worldwide.

The Living Earth campaign (LIVE), is the culmination of CCIVS work on Peace and the Environment, replacing the campaigns IVS for Climate Justice and Raising Peace, it seeks to focus on what it means to live a peaceful and harmonious existence on Earth and respect towards the Earth as a living being. The Living Earth campaign focuses on three main areas of action; ‘Hand on Actions’, ‘Awareness Raising’ and ‘Advocacy and Visibility’.

About CCIVS Work Plan 2022

Under the banner “Regenerate Reconcile – Youth Advocacy for Climate Justice”, the CCIVS work plan for 2022 aims to increase the advocacy competence and political participation of young activists from the voluntary service movement in the field of climate justice.

Concretely, the work plan will work towards the following objectives:

• to provide training and tools to strengthen the capacity and resources of the voluntary service movement in climate justice advocacy;
• to consolidate the previous IVS for Climate Justice Campaign outcomes and conduct concrete advocacy actions for climate justice based on the outcomes;
• to support and engage young people in advocacy work for climate justice on a local and international level;
• to advocate for the recognition of international voluntary service as an effective tool to support young people to contribute to and promote a just and sustainable world.

In order to achieve the objectives mentioned above, the work plan proposal includes the following phases:

1. Skills & Knowledge: International Advocacy Training on Climate Justice (31 March – 4 April 2022, Peja, Kosovo);
2. Act & Multiply: Local Actions and Advocacy for Climate Justice (May – November 2022)
3. Communicate & Consolidate: Online Advocacy on Climate Justice (February – December 2022)

About the international training on advocacy and climate justice

This will be an empowerment process that strengthens the capacity and resources of the voluntary service movement in climate justice advocacy. The activity will provide important experiences and advocacy practices for the young participants and participating IVS organisations to develop and adjust their advocacy strategies and plans at the local and national levels. Its outcomes will be used and/or disseminated during the Local Actions and Online Advocacy, which consolidates its sustainability and impact.

Objectives

1. to provide a context of climate crisis and offer tools on advocacy and political engagement;
2. to guide young participants to address the climate issues they are concerned and develop advocacy contents and actions based on the needs assessment approach;
3. to support youth people to exercise their democratic citizenship and to address the climate justice issue to their local communities and authorities.

By the end of the activity, the participants shall:

1. have a deeper understanding of the climate issues;
2. have an increased knowledge about the international legal standards developed by the CoE, eg. the European Convention on Human Rights, the European Social Charter and the Bern Convention on the conservation of European wildlife and natural habitats, which help make progress on environmental issues;
3. have a clearer idea what are the roles and rights of young people in the advocacy work and political processes and how to motivate and support their participation;
4. be able to define the advocacy target, message and approach;
5. have an enhanced experience and practice in networking and public advocacy.

Participants’ Profile

• We greatly encourage young people between 18 – 35 to participate in this event;
• Interest in the topics of the event: volunteering, non-formal education, human rights, climate issues, advocacy, the CoE co-management system, the Advisory Council on Youth of the CoE;
• Motivated to develop skills on advocacy for climate justice, to initiate participation process, to exercise advocacy skills and address the impact of emerging trends;
• Availability to use the skills and knowledge gained in the event to support the activities of the sending organisations;
• Availability to join the full duration of the Training;
• Able to follow the Training in English and active participation with an open minded (particularly no Hate Speech).

Financial Conditions

Participant Contribution

20 EUR / participant for CCIVS full members; 50 EUR / participant for non CCIVS members.

(Since CCIVS cannot cover 100% of participants’ travel costs in this event, the contribution requested is exceptional set lower than the CCIVS standard. More info on CCIVS contribution system HERE)

Accommodation and Food

It will be covered by the project during the full duration of the event. The participants will receive a detailed Infopack regarding the accommodation and logistics arrangement.

In GAIA’s programs and activities, sustainable living practices are implemented as much as possible. This, of course, includes food and travel choices. They provide vegan food with vegetarian options, while most groceries, especially fresh ones, are local, seasonal and from small producers. They are especially careful with dairy products, as their industry contributes a lot to climate change. In all their programs they compost organic waste and reuse items that can be given a second chance.

Travel Costs Support

Organisations are expected to cover the travel costs of their representatives. Travel costs will be reimbursed within 3 months after the end of the actions on receipt of all boarding passes, train/bus tickets, visa receipts, etc. Participants must abide by the official activity dates – The funders only allow 2 days extra on either side of the official project dates in the travel booking.

Please note that the process of reimbursement will be carried out directly with the applicant organisations and not with the individual participants.

Travel costs will be reimbursed at 65% up to the platform:

• Europe up to 300 EUR / person
• Asia up to 800 EUR / person
• America up to 1200 EUR / person
• Africa up to 800 EUR / person

About the Hosting Organisation

GAIA (https://gaiakosovo.org/) was founded in 2010 in Plemetina and registered as a non-governmental organisation in June 2010 in Prishtina, Kosovo. GAIA is an organisation dedicated to the culture of peace, social and environmental justice and sustainable living. GAIA also promotes cultural diversity and works on education and integration of marginalised and minority groups in society.

In 2014 GAIA became the official branch of Service Civil International in Kosovo, one of the oldest peace organisations which organises diverse volunteer programs all around the world. Since then, together with different local partners, more than 30 international volunteering workcamps were organised in which more than 300 international and local volunteers participated. In addition to workcamps, through the Erasmus+ program, GAIA has been organising different educational events (trainings, workshops, seminars) and youth exchanges on the topic of nature conservation, climate change, reconciliation, rights of minorities, natural building and permaculture.

In all programs, we host long-term volunteers either through European Solidarity Corps or other national programs such as French Civil Service and German Weltwarts.  GAIA also supports young people from Kosovo to take part in long- and short-term volunteering programs abroad.

The main activities of GAIA are international volunteer programs, non-formal education and permanent community-building programs, in places that are facing different social or environmental challenges.

COVID-related Issues

• PCR test: if you are required to have the PCR test for the travel or border check reason, the test costs will be eligible for reimbursement upon providing the relevant documentation (eg. the government policy, the invoices of the test, the test result etc.).
• Travel Cancellation Fee: in case the event is postponed / cancelled due to the COVID situation and you have to cancel your travel tickets, the cancellation fee can be reimbursed upon request and after we examine its eligibility. We strongly advise you to book a refundable travel ticket if it’s within your event budget.

The AlwaysON for Youth Consortium – Digital Youth Work Community of Learning is pleased to announce the second online event “Thank you COVID, I guess? Non formal education going online – lessons learned from international youth work trainers” that will count with the participation of Marcus Vrecer, trainer and facilitator of the International Youth Work Trainers Guild. The online event will take place on December 16, 2021 starting at 4 pm GMT / 5 pm CET / 6 pm EET.

With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, youth work and non-formal education methods have been affected, facing challenges to adapt to new COVID-19 travel and physical regulations, such as social distancing and the digital transition. Digital solidarity has proven indispensable during this period as the demand and needs for virtual approaches have grown indubitably.

Despite all these challenges, the youth work sector is facing the opportunity to create new dynamics, partnerships and reach new audiences. At the same time, the fast adaptation to a new format has also made visible challenges coming from massive digitalisation and new forms of communication.

The online ZOOM event – “Thank you COVID, I guess? With Marcus Vrecer – aims to bring together local and national stakeholders to reflect and discuss the lessons learned on the engagement of participants in online activities; share findings from collected testimonies and surveys among youth work trainers who needed to start working online because of COVID; and create a space for open questions, challenges and opportunities for the future.

It is addressed to youth workers, non-formal education stakeholders, national agencies, representatives of youth organisations – from the youth sector and beyond.

The #IVS4Peace project – Inclusive Voluntary Service for Peace – has been running since the beginning of 2018, coordinated by the Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS) in partnership with the Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organisations, Youth of European Nationalities (YEN), Compagnons Bâtisseurs Belgium, Egyesek Youth Association, Elix and Solidarités Jeunesses. 

The project aims to share good practices and develop tools to ensure the inclusion of youth with fewer opportunities, in particular, youth with migrant, asylum seeker and refugee background as well as youth from minorities, in IVS projects.

After three and a half years, the #IVS4Peace project is coming to an end. It is time, thus, to share our results with the world and envision future steps.

Young Men’s Christian Associations Romania Federation (YMCA Romania), as coordinator, together with Young Initiative Association – Romania (AYI), Sdrujenie “Nadejda-CRD” -Bulgaria (Nadejda), The Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service – France (CCIVS ) and the Alliance Europeenne des YMCA – Belgium (YMCA Europe), as partners, announce the start of the implementation of the strategic youth partnership project “#AlwaysON for youth”, co-financed by the European Union through the Erasmus + Program.

The aim of the project is to increase the capacity of youth organisations from Romania, France, Bulgaria, Belgium, and the federated networks of the partnership consortium to serve young people (including vulnerable youth) extensively and intensively through digital youth work and digital inclusion and safety practices.

The objectives of the project are:

1. To develop a collaborative learning space focused on digital inclusion and digital youth work between 5 EU-based youth organisations through the sharing of best practices and national approaches;
2. Increase the capacity of at least 100 youth workers from minimum 4 EU countries to engage in digital inclusion and digital youth work activities;
3. Increase the capacity of at least 25 youth organisations from minimum 4 EU countries to improve or adopt digital inclusion practices for reaching out to young people with fewer opportunities from their communities;
4. Raise awareness among minimum 100 youth workers from 4 EU countries around the opportunities, challenges and solutions surrounding digital safety and privacy (including humane technologies and algorithms) 

The expected results of the project are:

• Development  of a digital platform for youth workers that will  foster learning and sharing of good practices among 100 youth workers from at least 4 EU countries;
• “Shaping Digital Inclusion and Safety in the Post-Pandemic World” research paper with the involvement of at least 250 young people and 250 youth workers from at least 4 Eu countries;
• MOOC course on digital inclusion and safety;
• 30 youth workers from 4 EU countries involved in a comprehensive digital youth work and digital inclusion training course;
• 5 gamification tools are created and freely available for youth organisations to interactively engage and use them to develop their digital inclusion strategies;

The target group is formed by youth workers from participating countries and other EU and partner countries interested in engaging in digital youth work activities and/or willing to learn more about this topic, youth organisations and their management teams from participating countries and other EU and partner countries who are planning to develop or create their digital youth work capacity/strategy and teachers who are interested in organising digital activities with their students and can get strong inspiration from digital youth work and digital inclusion practices.

The project will last 25 months, respectively April 2021 – April 2023, and has a total value of EUR 175,203.

Sdrujenie “Nadejda-CRD” – Bulgaria

“Nadejda CRD” Sdrujenie is a non-governmental organisation from Sofia, Bulgaria working with children, youngsters and adults to promote cultural and educational values. Their aim is to encourage people to participate in clubs and activities, to develop their features, abilities and interests. Yearly the organisation works with more than 3,000 families as organises and supports club activities, concerts and performances, exhibitions, seminars and social clubs, and also takes part in national and European projects.  As a cultural, educational and social organisation “Nadejda CRD” works also with youngsters with behavioral problems, people at the end of social exclusion and people with disabilities. The organisation believes that non-formal learning provides unique learning opportunities that bring big social change in the young European population.

The Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service – France (CCIVS) 

Founded in 1948, CCIVS is a coordinating body for international voluntary service (IVS) organisations it is made up of over 180 diverse independent grassroots organisations in 90+ countries around the world (including the international networks SCI, ICYE, IBO and Alliance of European Youth Organisations) coming together under a common banner and vision that of social change through IVS and the ultimate goal of world peace. These organisations mobilize 30,000 volunteers per year and work with 3,000 local communities. Founded in 1948 The Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS) is a non-governmental, non-profit making international organisation (INGO) working for the development of voluntary service worldwide. CCIVS connects and empowers 188 organisations, promoting and advocating for International Voluntary Service and its values locally and globally it acts as a link to establish relations between the members and international institutions such as the EU, different UN agencies, or foundations. The CCIVS network creates campaigns and actions based on the idea that working together voluntarily on a concrete and meaningful task is the most effective way of creating international friendship and understanding, paving the way for social transformation and long-lasting peace.

CCIVS actions focus on:

• Networking and International Representation: CCIVS organises inter-regional projects of IVS organisations, global meetings and participates in institutional forums and high level meetings (UN, INGOS, public and private stakeholders) to defend the priorities of
  the International Voluntary Service Movement.
• Training and Capacity building: Trainings for volunteers, leaders, trainers, and staff ofvIVS organisations to develop the organisational capacities of members.
• Communication and campaigns: CCIVS puts IVS organisations and other institutions into contact and provides information, materials and tools. Promotion of campaigns to raise visibility and strengthen the work of IVS organisations.

JOB TITLE Development Officer

Short description of the position

After 70 years, The Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service – CCIVS is undergoing a reorganisation process. Fully supported by the CCIVS Executive Committee and existing Secretariat team, the Development Officer (DO) is responsible for, leading and overseeing the strategic change programs that align with the key mission and purpose of CCIVS. Specifically, they will be responsible for supporting any needs in the setting up of the new office in Estonia, whilst overseeing the general team coordination and focusing on the development of the network itself.

Location of the Position

The CCIVS Development Officer (DO) will be employed in the first stage by our Estonian member organisation EstYES and will work from their office based in Tallinn. Once the new office is fully functional the staff member will be employed directly by CCIVS.

EMpowering Youth – Improving Capacity for Euromed Youth Projects is a project coordinated by the CCIVS that aims to improve the management and coordination skills of youth organisations and young trainers for future EuroMed projects, developing also innovative online tools to ensure participation and promote volunteering. The partners of this project are ACC (Morocco), Baladna (Israel); Concordia UK; PCMRD (Palestine), SCI Catalunya, SCI Hellas (Greece), Space SD (Jordan).

The project includes online and residential activities to be implemented within an 11-month timeline:

• an online networking meeting in November 2020 to define the next steps and the role of each partner;
• a series of 4 one-day capacity-building webinars in March 2021 to provide project management skills to 14 young staff members and youth workers;
• a residential Training for Trainers planned in Morocco in May 2021 to equip 16 young trainers with skills to coordinate EuroMed NFE activities;
• an online Conference in June 2021 to disseminate results and encourage synergies;
• a digital platform running in 2021, to provide visibility of the activities and to promote e-learning and intercultural dialogue;
• involvement of the participants of the Training for Trainers in local actions in summer 2021, to put into practice the skills learned.
